New to Rallying?……………….

If you have just joined the Caravan Club and want to start rallying you will need to join a Regional Centre.  You can book on a rally as a Caravan Club member (you will be listed as a non-centre member) but if you want to rally on a regular basis it is advisable to join a centre (this will not cost you anything). Just or fill in the slip on the back of the Caravan Club joining form or contact the Caravan Club by phone and tell them which centre you wish to join.

Once the Caravan Club send us a registration card to inform us that you are a member you will be sent a centre rally handbook (this is free to registered centre members - a charge of £2 is made to non-centre members). This handbook lists all the rallies for the year as shown on our website but also gives other important information including contact details of rally marshals (these are not published on the website for security reasons).

If you want to know more about a centre before you decide to join, contact the Hon. Secretary for that centre (most centres are listed on our links page and they should be able to forward a message to their secretary).

The main emphasis is that rallying is something for all the family to enjoy from the very young to the very old. In our centre the age range is huge - from babes in arms to more mature members, enjoying their retirement!

In my experience most people come out for the same reasons, to relax in good company and enjoy a leisurely pastime with like minded people in a safe and friendly environment. There is a great social side to rallying but that doesn't mean that you have to take part, it’s up to you – join in or just come out for a relaxing break, you certainly won’t be pressured to do anything you don’t want to.

There has been a long running myth that caravan ralliers are very 'clicky' especially the Caravan Club ones - please let me dispel that myth once and for all. When you join the centre you will meet a great bunch of people, all having a great time who will be happy for you to join in if you want but they understand that everyone is different and some people take time to settle in - we were all new ralliers once. So if we don't make a big fuss of you at first it's not because we're 'clicky' it's because we are waiting for you to settle in and decide what you want to do.

There are lots of people who will say hello or will be there if you need a hand with anything but as you begin to feel more comfortable and get to know a few names you will find it easier to chat to people and join in with activities, if that's what you want to do.

There are a number of activities you can join in with such as the 'Centre Sports' the 'Intercentre Fishing Challenge'' and celebration rallies such as the 2000th Celebration Rally held in Clumber Park during 2004.

I hope this information has helped you to learn a little about rallying but if there is anything else you want to know, please contact me by email and I will be happy to answer any queries you may have or will pass them on to the relevant person for attention.

Hope to see you on the rally field soon!
