It was a cold and windy day, 10 wannabe British open champions
met up at Rufford Park Golf course to be crowned Nott’s
caravan club golf champion 2008.
The day started really well for me, yes, we tucked into a
full English breakfast, eat as much as you like. I even remembered
to go to the little boys room, as not to have a repeat of
last years performance at the fifth.
Now for the golf, as usual Mike Darnell, Dave and Jason Shreeves
teed off looking like true professionals. Then it was my group
that also included Dave Wharton, Barry Daley and Darren Pilgrim.
Dave hit a nice shot, as did Barry. I lined up in my full
ping gear ( at least I looked the part) and drove straight
down the middle, "what a start" this was defiantly
going to be my year. It’s just a pity it all went wrong
at the second, third, fourth and every other bloody hole after
that. Anyway I looked good at the first with a dozen or so
spectators watching.
Darren was also just as unlucky; his first tee shot did not
even reach the ladies tee, which is only 8ft in front of the
men’s. The best driving Darren did that day was driving
from Rufford Park back to the caravan site.
Tom's group followed up at the rear, I’m sure he drew
the short straw as he was constantly being held up by our
group "looking at each others balls", sorry "for
each others balls."
Nevertheless it was a great day enjoyed by all.
Many thanks to Tom for organising the event.
The Winners:
Longest Drive: Mike Darnell (a short distance of approx 160
yards). I even heard that Tom drove his ball into the water,
that will teach him for having an illegal driver.
Closest Pin: Barry Daley, the only golfer to land onto the
green.
Eventual Winner: Mike Darnell, with 33 stapleford points.
WELL DONE!! (Lucky B******)
Booby Prize: Darren Pilgrim, 3 years running Darren has collected
this prize and Tom figured that he already had too many sets
of plastic golf clubs, so he gave him a good piece of advise
and gave him a catch ball set. Apparently Darren has now chopped
4 inches off all his golf clubs, he has found that they fit
inside his wheelie bin better.
Many Thanks again to Tom Mead
