Easter Rally 2008
21st to 25th March 2008
Rufforth Playing Fields, York

I must say I always look forward to Easter – usually it is the time when the weather starts to get warmer and it is possible to sit outside your van but we knew that was going to be dodgy this year because Easter fell so early – weren’t we right. We had rain, sleet and snow but this didn’t damper everyone’s enthusiasm.

We arrived nice and early on the Friday morning. We had stayed at a local CL the previous night which turned out to be just off the A64 so we heard the traffic all night so we were all hitched and ready to go by 7.00!!!

We sited ourselves and then sat and had a drink and decided what to do for the rest of the day. It seemed as though we had been up for hours but it was only 9.30 – so we decided to go into York. We had a walk around York, which is a lovely place, but then came back just as it started raining.

We were lucky in that there was a hall on site so it didn’t matter what the weather was like really. Friday evening we were given nibbles on the table and then had a picture quiz. We did really well only Andy was swapping answers but he was bringing back answers we had already got.

Saturday we took a trip to Whitby – we have been a few times but never seen the sea so high and in fact they had banned people from going on the beach.

Saturday evening there was a lovely social again with a supper of stew and bread followed by Fruit cocktail and cream.

Sunday morning we woke up to sounds of hilarity which turned out to be kids already out playing in four inches of snow!! The children (and Paul Wright) had a whale of a time building snowmen and having snowball fights.

Sunday afternoon there was an Easter egg hunt around the vans. The teenagers didn’t do that well as when they found them they ate them but the idea was to find as many as you could and whoever had the most in their basket won!!!

Sunday evening it was flag and a lovely Ploughman’s supper and a game of Edwin’s crazy bingo – not going to say much about that but he hasn’t been asked to do it again! The Easter bonnets were fab, well done to everyone that took part.
Thanks to Phil, Sharon, Andy and Joyce for a lovely weekend. - Jackie and Andy Carlile

Unfortunately we haven't any photographs of the Easter Bonnet parade - If you have some and would like to see them on the website then please send them to nottscentrepress@yahoo.co.uk
