Well 60 people of varying ages turned up at the Tenpin
(formerly Megabowl) on a lovely Sunday afternoon. After getting
their bowling shoes everyone was ready for action. The games
started and some lanes seem to be a bit more competitive than
others!!
The management provided complimentary drinks for the
children and champagne (well sparkly wine) for the adults,
which was a nice surprise. Lauren wanted to know why she couldn’t
have the barriers up but as Sam pointed out – she is
19 now!!! Andy Carlile thought he had the contest in the bag
but Paul Whitby beat him by 9 points!!!
As the games were finishing the food appeared as if by
magic and then it was time for quasar! A few of the younger
ones stopped to have a second game of bowling but the majority
had opted to try their hand at quasar.
There were three time slots and the younger ones went
in for the first game and the second game consisted of the
teenagers and a lot of the competitive men, you know those
that think they are still teenagers, don’t you Andy,
Simon and Mick!!! The third competition had men versus women,
although we had the edge as we had 8 of us we didn’t
fare very well – was it because we were against Ian,
Darren and Richard – you know how competitive they are.
To be honest I couldn’t even think about shooting for
the first five minutes as I was laughing at Darren so much
as I think he had been watching too many Ross Kemp programmes
and thought he was part of ultimate force. In fact at one
time he went sliding down to try and get someone and took
John Guest’s legs from under him – I wish I could
have seen that!!! One of the rules was no physical contact
but I got so fed up of hearing “You have been hit, You
have been hit” I broke the golden rule and kicked Ivor
because he wouldn’t stop killing me. A little bird also
told me about my fellow team member, who shall remain anonymous,
but I think her husband used to be Chairman, protected the
wrong base area for 15 minutes and lost us loads of points!!!!!
Thanks to Ian, Andrea, Paul and Lisa and also to the
staff at the venue because nothing was too much trouble.
The eventual winners were :
Bowling: Under 12 – Holly Wright, 13-16 – Scott
Carlile, Adults – Paul Whitby
Quasar: First Game – Georgina Yeomans, Second Game –
Scott Carlile, Third Game – John Guest
