Bonfire Rally 2008
Hayes Farm, Newstead - 7-9 November

Well the weather certainly didn't put that many people off and the vans started arriving at around 10.30 a.m. The weather was kind to us all day which helped with getting so many vans in.

Friday evening saw our usual get together with a supper of hot mushy peas, a game for the children, a quiz and also our usual Friday disco.

Saturday dawned bright and cold!! The bonfire team of Phil Lloyd, Scott Carlile, Daniel Pilgrim, Ashley Winter, Liam Hammett and Josh Storer went about their task of building up the bonfire and late morning saw the arrival of everyone to make their Guy Fawkes. It was a great turn out and well done to the winners Holly and Libby Pilgrim and Lucy Wright - but I am sure they had some help from Darren. 2nd were Lucy Wright and Gabriel Williamson and third were the Preston clan.

At 6.30 everyone met outside the marshals van and the torches were lit and Phil our Chairman led everyone round the vans and up the lane. All the children gathered around the bonfire and on the should of Phil Lloyd all the torches were thrown into the bonfire to light it.

A supper of jacket potatoes with various fillings was served and then the fireworks started. The firework team had a hard task trying to cope with the low cloud and the wind but the fireworks were fantastic. Well done to Pete, Malc, Andy and Ian.

It was then back to the marquees to finish the night off with a disco.

The marquees were soon down in the morning and as flag started the heavens opened and we had been so lucky. Then came the task of getting all the vans off - thanks to everyone who helped especially Phil and Craig Pattinson who never stopped.

Roll on next year!!
