Annual
Golf Competition This years Notts Centre Golf Tournament was played at the ever popular Rufford Park Golf Club on Saturday 16th April. Two new players made up the twelve members who entered, Mick Yeomans and Colin (Glenis’s partner) playing for the first time in the competition. We all gathered at the clubhouse for the full English breakfast on offer and everyone had plenty to fill them for the next 4-5 hours. Some even went up for seconds. I thought Ian Pilgrim (who was one of them) was very brave having so much fried stuff when you consider what happened to him the last time we were here. (Ask him about it when you see him). After breakfast we all went out to the practice area hoping to sharpen our skills and improve our chances of winning the trophy. What a waste of time that was!! Again we were blessed with great weather for the day. The sun shone and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky as the starter gave us the go ahead to get off. Nervous tension cut the air as the first group teed off in front of the clubhouse in full view of everyone. Anyway that was the excuse given by those who hooked, sliced, duffed, thinned or completely missed their first shot. “Its going to be a long day” the official starter muttered hoping no-one would hear. But once we were clear of the first tee everyone relaxed and got in to the spirit of the occasion. Despite the fierce rivalry between some, the round was played in good spirits and everyone was grateful to reach the 19th hole for a well earned drink and sit down. Prize winners
this year were:- Congratulations to Mike, Darren, and Mick. Thanks to everyone who took part. For those who didn’t win anything keep practicing – you never know what will happen next year! |
