Christmas Rally
Calverton Scout Camp - 24th to 27th December 2008
Marshals: Mick, Sam & Georgina Yeomans, Philip & Kay Lloyd, Dave & Amanda Smalley
Report and photographs supplied by Cliff Rylance

This was the last Christmas rally run by the present Marshals and did they go out with a bang, as usual the food was second to none and plenty of it.

We started off at 1.00 Christmas Eve helping to decorate the hall whilst partaking of Hot Mulled wine and mince pies. Later that day, at 6.oo to be exact we donned our cowboy outfits and were then fed with a traditional cowboy fare of sausages and mash then a sweet before being entertained by West Ride a country duo.

Breakfast was served each day for those who could make it.

Xmas day dinner was a 7 course feast with all the trimmings and wine.
The table decorations were fantastic each day. After the buffet Xmas day we saw the funniest attempt at strictly come prancing, with our chairman Phil Rookes 6'8" approx partnered with Janet Smith 4' 2" approx. but the overall winners (after some dodgy judging) was Chris Norman and her partner Richard Staley. there was also some competition on who had the roundest mount in the form of dressed space hoppers, I think John Guest won that one. Yeo Yeo stole the night with her rendition of the Duffy song Mercy.

All that and a visit from Santa as well where we all had a gift of a photo frame album with our own pictures on the front to keep all our happy memories in.

Boxing Day Dinner was a only a 5 course dinner, thank goodness as I was already fit to burst.

The evening entertainment was Brothers in Soul and excellent duo and the Grand Buffet was certainly that, with sea food and game being the theme, there was Salmon, Trout, Prawns, Muscles, Calamari, Duck, Pheasant and Partridge and even Curry, Prawn toast, Onion Bargees etc. There was certainly more food than every one could eat.

Saturday saw us all round for the flag at which we thanked our Marshals for all their hard work and said a fond farewell to our visitors till the next time. Thanks really must go to Mick, Sam and Georgina, Dave (the Chef) and Amanda, Phil and Kay for making the last 5 Christmas's some of the best ever.
